How do I tell if my Brakes are Bad?
There are many ways to tell if you need new brakes or if there is a greater problem at play. Does your car or truck:
- Seem to pulse or feel erratic while braking?
- Make a grinding noise while stopping or slowing?
- Require a lot of pressure to come to a stop?
- Does the steering wheel shake while stopping at speed?
What about Pads and Rotors?
The two most important components of the braking system are the pads and the rotors. When you apply the brake pedal, the brake pedal will then push a plunger in the automobiles master cylinder, this displaces the brake fluid inside. It is this displacement of volume that forces the brake fluid into the brake lines down to the brake caliper.
Your caliper surrounds the top portion of your brake rotors. Confused yet? Don’t be it really isn’t that complicated. In other words, the brake fluid causes the caliper to clamp or squeeze the brake pads to the rotor surface. This slows and stops the wheel from turning, bring you and your vehicle to a safe stop each time.
